Yesterday October 31st, 2024. Apex Legends made an unexpected and shocking announcement “Linux (and Steam Deck using Linux) will no longer be able to access Apex Legends“ This decision was made by the Anti-Cheat development team of Apex Legends as their way to tackle cheaters, claiming that the most vile cheats were Linux based and that it was a difficult choice for Devs to make but they claim that it was for the ”greater good”
Here’s what Apex Legends Devs say about Linux “The Openness of the Linux Operating system makes it an attractive one for cheaters & cheat developers. Linux Cheats are indeed harder to detect and the data shows that they’re growing at a rate that requires an outsized level of focus and attention from the team for a relatively small platform. There are also cases in which cheats for the Windows OS get emulated as if it’s on Linux in order to increase difficulty and detection and prevention”
